a football boom? the Burkinabé

it will be difficult to reapeat
the 1998 surprise: all things went right then

performances have become more
stabile, but they will hardly be able to play at the same level as the
big ones, if those are in-form

the form of opponents seems
unclear and the group is not as strong as A or D

overview: Burkina
Faso among the best of Africa

the
list of players (includes age and where do they play
analysis)
Burkina
Faso has been hosts to the Nations Cup 1998 and have managed a surprise
build up of a capable national team for the before tiny football power
in West Africa.
The team that rose
to the occasion when playing on home turf and has surprisingly been stabilised
yet.
A youth team composed
of members of a football school qualified as one of the three best of Africa
for the under17 world championships and even the clubs have played relatively
well in recent international competitions. There seems to be some kind
of football boom in the country.
Now they will have
to deal with pressure once again. Expectations are high after the good
results. But in 1998 their success definitively exceeded the talent, Burkina
Faso then played at their limits. Whether it is enough to advance to the
second round will depend on the quality of the opponents as well as on
how much they can match the miracolous performance of 1998.
